Game Story

The Newfoundland Growlers completed the come from behind victory Saturday night in Reading after falling behind by 2 goals early in the first period. The Growlers would claw back to eventually dethrone the Royals in the clubs first ever shootout by a score of 4-3.

The Reading Royals opened the scoring with 2 quick goals just one minute apart at 15:35 and 16:25, the first scored by Joe Houk with Adam Schmidt adding the second tally.

Zach O’Brien would spur the Growlers late in the first by beating Callum Booth who was scrambling after a quick from Marcus Power pass. Alex Gudbranson would tie the game with 15 seconds left in the first from a quick blast from the point.

The Royals would snap back at the Growlers at 13:34 of the second as Alex Roos would beat Garteig to put the Royals up 3-2.

Late in the period, once again, the Growlers would tie the game as Marcus Power snuck one by Booth off a deflection from a Matt Bradley point shot.

The game would remain tied throughout the third period and overtime, forcing the game into a shootout. This would mark the first shootout in Newfoundland Growlers history.
