On Wednesday afternoon, the Growlers’ AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies, added another former Growler to the mix with the signing of goaltender Angus Redmond.
Redmond will be the tenth former Growler to suit up for the Marlies, who began the season with a pair of wins over the Manitoba Moose this week.
It was just over a year ago that Redmond was lighting the ECHL on fire as a member of the Growlers. Then on an NHL contract with the Anaheim Ducks, Redmond tended goal for the Growlers’ record-clinching victory on February 14, 2020, helping Newfoundland claim the ECHL record for most consecutive home victories at 19.
Appearing in just 20 games a season ago for the Growlers, the 25-year-old Langley, British Columbia native was nothing short of outstanding, compiling a 16-2 record with a 2.55 goals against average and a .907 save percentage.
Redmond’s deal with the Marlies won’t be his first stint in the American Hockey League. He appeared in two games with the San Diego Gulls during the 2018-19 season, collecting a 2.85 goals against average and a .909 save percentage.
Prior to joining the Marlies this season, the man fans affectionately call ‘Beef’ appeared in two games alongside another Growler teammate Giorgio Estephan with the Kansas City Mavericks.
The Marlies have two games remaining on their season-opening four-game road trip in Winnipeg. Their next game is Thursday, February 18 at 6:00 PM CST, 8:30 PM in Newfoundland.
