TORONTO MARLIES ASSIGN MATT HELLICKSON TO NEWFOUNDLAND

CONCEPTION BAY SOUTH, NL – The Newfoundland Growlers, ECHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced today that defenseman Matt Hellickson has been reassigned to the Growlers from the club’s AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies.

Hellickson, 23, has appeared in two games for the Marlies thus far in the 2021-22 season, collecting one assist.

The Rogers, Minnesota native finished his four-year collegiate career at Notre Dame in 2020-21. From 2017 to 2021, the left-handed rearguard appeared in 146 NCAA contests and scored 13 goals and added 39 assists for 52 points to go along with 54 penalty minutes.

Hellickson, a seventh-round NHL draft pick, 214th overall by the New Jersey Devils in 2017, made his professional debut at the end of his 2020-21 collegiate season, appearing in five games with the Binghamton Devils. He also played nine games for Team USA at the 2021 IIHF World Hockey Championship in Latvia, helping his country to a bronze medal.

The Growlers return to action this weekend, hosting the ECHL affiliate of the New Jersey Devils, the Adirondack Thunder, on November 5, 6, and 7.
