The Newfoundland Growlers are set to host the Reading Royals in a weekend doubleheader at Mary Brown’s Centre following their midweek clash.
Newfoundland returned home winners of six straight contests and extended that streak to seven with a 4-2 win over the Reading Royals on Wednesday night.
While standout individual performances defined the recent road trip at times, the Growlers relied on scoring by committee on Wednesday as nine different skaters picked up a point, with Ty Pelton-Byce scoring the winner.
Reading have now dropped four straight contests after a strong start to the season, but despite their recent skid they remain in second in the North Division, one point ahead of the third place Trois-Rivières Lions.
Jacob Pritchard was the lone bright spot for the Royals as he provided both goals for the visitors on Wednesday.
Heading into the weekend as the two top teams in the North Division, the Growlers will look to further distance themselves from the pack on home ice, while the visiting Royals try and close the gap between Newfoundland and the five teams chasing them in the next two games.
Puck drops is set for 7:00 pm NL time on Friday and Saturday evening. Growlers fans can watch all three games live on FloSports (subscription required), listen to the call on Mixlr, or follow along on Twitter (@NLGrowlers) for game updates and highlights.
WHO TO WATCH:
NFL – Marc Johnstone (F): Given the opportunity to centre the Growlers top line between Marcus Power and Zach O’Brien in place of the injured Nathan Noel, Johnstone notched an assist in both Newfoundland wins last weekend. Bringing plenty of energy and skill to the team’s top line, expect the points to keep coming for the 25-year-old New Jersey native.
REA – Jacob Pritchard (F): Coming off a two-goal outing and leading the way with 15 points for the Royals this season, Pritchard’s play will be pivotal for Reading offensively as they try and get back to winning ways.
