Growlers Acquire Colella from Stingrays

ST. JOHN’S, NL – The Newfoundland Growlers, ECHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced today that the club has acquired forward Maurizio Colella has been acquired from the South Carolina Stingrays in exchange for future considerations.

Colella, 24, appeared in three games this season as a member of the Stingrays and did not record a point.

The Tottenham, Ontario native played the previous two seasons for Acadia University in the USports system, appearing in a total of 60 games, scoring 12 goals, and adding 13 assists for 25 points between 2018 and 2020.

Prior to joining the university ranks, the 6-0, 187-pound left-winger played five seasons in the Ontario Hockey league with four different teams, including the Belleville Bulls, Hamilton Bulldogs, North Bay Battalion, and Flint Firebirds from 2013 to 2018.  In 278 OHL contests, he recorded 52 goals and 78 assists for 130 points with 111 penalty minutes.

He made his ECHL debut following the completion of his OHL season in 2017-18, suiting up for three games with the Worcester Railers.
