The Newfoundland Growlers make their way to Portland this weekend for a weekend tripleheader against the Maine Mariners at Cross Insurance Arena.
Newfoundland have had Maine’s number across this season, winning all six prior meetings in 2021-22. Their most recent battle came back on February 18 in 4-3 come from behind road victory for the Growlers where Noel Hoefenmayer and Zach O’Brien scored in the final 90 seconds to steal two points.
Maine find themselves in fifth place in North Division, equal on points percentage with the Trois-Rivières Lions in fourth, but having played four more games than the Loins, the Mariners remain outside the playoff picture as it stands.
It’s been an up and down month of March for the Mariners but they come into Friday night on four days rest and fresh off a strong showing against the South Carolina Stingrays on Sunday where they walked away 4-0 winners.
With big playoff implications on both benches, Newfoundland should see the best version of Maine across what will surely be a highly competitive three game set.
Puck drops is set for 8:45 pm on Friday night, 7:30 pm on Saturday evening and 4:30 pm on Sunday afternoon. Growlers fans can watch all three games live on FloSports (subscription required), listen to the call on Mixlr, or follow along on Twitter (@NLGrowlers) for game updates and highlights.
