GROWLERS SIGN RYLAN PARENTEAU TO ATO

ST. JOHN’S, NL – The Newfoundland Growlers, ECHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announce today that goaltender Rylan Parenteau has signed an Amateur Tryout Contract (ATO) with the Growlers and will join the club ahead of tonight’s game in Portland against the Maine Mariners.

Parenteau, 25, is a native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and played the last five seasons with USports powerhouse, the University of New Brunswick Reds. From 2017-18 to 2021-22, the 6’1” left-catching goaltender played 53 career games for the Reds and compiled an eye-popping record of 46-5-0 with a 1.73 goals-against average and a .913 save percentage.

Parenteau’s successful USports career resulted in several awards and accolades. In the 2017-18 season, not only did he backstop the Reds to an Atlantic University Sport (AUS) conference title, he was named to the conference All-Rookie Team. In 2018-19, the Reds repeated as AUS Conference champions and went all the way, winning the USports University Cup championship.

Prior to joining the collegiate ranks, Parenteau played three full seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Prince Albert Raiders (2014-15 to 2016-17) and Tri-City Americans (2016-17) and was named the WHL’s Hardest Working Player in 2015-16.

He played 145 games during his WHL career and posted a 69-52-10 record with a 3.10 goals-against average and a .904 save percentage with four shutouts.

The Growlers kick off their season-ending road trip tonight at Cross Insurance Arena in Portland, Maine against the Maine Mariners.
