TOP 10 MOMENTS OF 2021-22 — #6: FINKELSTEIN NAMED TO ECHL FIRST ALL-STAR TEAM

6) Ben Finkelstein Named to First All Star Team
With injuries forcing a late start to his season, it may be safe to assume that defenseman Ben Finkelstein didn’t expect to be adding any hardware to his mantle this season.
But when the South Burlington, Vermont native played his first game of the season on January 21, 2022 in Kansas City, little did we know what incredible play lay ahead.
Finkelstein started his season on an absolute heater, recording goals in back-to-back games. And that was just the beginning.
When the regular season ended, Finkelstein played in a mere 36 games, but collected an incredible 62 points, including 11 goals and 51 helpers. His incredible late-season run was indeed a historic one. He shattered the Growlers’ single-season scoring record for defensemen, set in 2019-20 when Joe Duszak put up 35 points in 34 games. His 62 points is now the most ever recorded by any Growlers defenseman in team history, six points clear of Kelly Cup champion and three-year veteran Garrett Johnston.
Despite the small sample size, Finkelstein was rewarded for his incredible season as he became the first Growler in franchise history to be named to the All-ECHL First All Star Team, and hopefully not the last.
