ST. JOHN’S, NL – The Newfoundland Growlers, ECHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced today that defenseman Axel Rindell has been assigned to the club on a conditioning loan by the Toronto Marlies (AHL).
Rindell, a 22-year-old defenseman from Helsinki, Finland, is a 6th round draft pick, 177th overall to the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.
He spent the last four seasons playing in the top league in his native Finland, SM-liiga. He played three seasons with Jukurit Mikkeli from 2019-20 to 2021-22 and joined Karpat for the 2021-22 season.
In total, Rindell appeared in 136 games over the last four seasons in Finland, scoring 14 goals and adding 51 assists for 65 points with 24 penalty minutes. His best individual season came in the 2020-21 campaign when he recorded seven goals and 19 assists for 26 points in just 47 games played.
