SERIES PREVIEW | NOVEMBER 11-13 VS. NORFOLK ADMIRALS

The Newfoundland Growlers return to the rock to host the Norfolk Admirals for the first time ever in a tripleheader beginning on Friday night at the Mary Brown’s Centre.

Newfoundland head home following a five-game road trip where they amassed an impressive 4-0-1-0 record, their only minor blemish a 4-3 overtime defeat against the undefeated Worcester Railers back on November 2.

Zach O’Brien currently paces the ECHL point race with 17 points in just eight games played, while Tyler Boland (7G, 5A), Isaac Johnson (6G, 6A) and Orrin Centazzo (3G, 9A) all hold a share of 2nd place on 12 points to date.

Norfolk have found life in the North Division to be difficult during the early stages of their move to the division as they’ve won just one of their opening nine games to start the 2022-23 season.

Currently last in the league standings, the Admirals will be looking to this weekend as an opportunity to bounce back from their sluggish start.

While the gap in points between these two might paint a picture largely in favour of the Growlers, the element of the unknown should make for an interesting three game set as the Admirals make their first ever visit to Mary Brown’s Centre.

Puck drops is set for 7:00 pm on Friday and Saturday night, and 4:00 pm on Sunday evening. Growlers fans can watch both games live on FloSports (subscription required), listen to the call on Mixlr, or follow along on Twitter (@NLGrowlers) for game updates and highlights. Tickets for all three games can be purchased at nlgrowlers.com/tickets.

WHO TO WATCH:

NFL – Mikko Kokkonen (D): Selected 84th overall in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs, Kokkonen brings true top-level talent to the Newfoundland blueline. Picking up one assist in three appearances for the Growlers to date, fans should take note of #13 on defence for his all-around complete game.

NOR – Todd Burgess(F): A name Growlers fans should recall from the 2021-22 season, Burgess featured in 10 games for Newfoundland last year while spending most of the campaign in the AHL with Manitoba. Pointless through nine contests so far, the former Growler will look to get off the schneid against his former club.
