The Newfoundland Growlers win streak came to an end in an 8-3 loss to the Worcester Railers on Saturday night at DCU Center.
Keenan Suthers opened the scoring for Newfoundland inside four minutes as he slotted home a gift from Worcester goaltender Ken Appleby to make it 1-0 Growlers.
Liam Coughlin replied five minutes later as he finished off some nifty Railers passing to tie things at 1-1 with 11:09 left in the 1st.
Bobby Butler gave the hosts their first lead of the game with 2:34 remaining in the first period to put the Railers up 2-1 after the opening 20 minutes.
Blade Jenkins made it 3-1 Worcester early in the middle frame with a powerplay strike 47 seconds into the 2nd. Jimmy Lambert got in one the scoring before Butler and Newkirk each added their second of the game to make it 6-1 Worcester after the second.
After Pavel Gogolev and Todd Skirving showed some life from the Growlers to open the third, Worcester got two back in a hurry including a third goal for Butler to seal the hat-trick and an 8-3 Railers win.
- Pavel Gogolev extended his point streak to ten games with the goal.
- Taylor Egan was +2 despite the loss.
