The Newfoundland Growlers started their road trip in good form with a 5-1 win over the Adirondack Thunder on Friday night at Cool Insuring Arena.
Zach O’Brien opened the scoring for Newfoundland midway through the first period with a one-timed blast on the powerplay to make it 1-0 Growlers after 20 minutes of play.
Jordan Escott doubled the Growlers advantage four minutes into the middle frame with a tight angle shot to give Newfoundland a 2-0 lead.
Pavel Gogolev and Brandon Kruse provided further insurance for the visitors before the second period concluded to give the Growlers a 4-0 advantage going into the third.
After Michael Joyaux notched a second man advantage goal of the night for Newfoundland early in the 3rd, Jeff Taylor ruined the shutout with a powerplay strike for the Thunder to cut it to 5-1 with 10:47 left in regulation.
- Keith Petruzzelli made 31 saves in his first Growlers start of the season.
- Zach O’Brien improved his league best point tally to 40 (11G, 29A).
