The Newfoundland Growlers walked away emphatic winners in their first ever visit to Cincinnati as they topped the Cyclones 6-1 on Wednesday night at Heritage Bank Center.
Adam Dawe opened the scoring for Newfoundland 11 minutes into the opening period before adding a second less than three minutes later to give the Growlers a sudden 2-0 lead.
Isaac Johnson batted one out of midair into the Cyclones net 90 seconds before the first intermission to give Newfoundland a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes.
Zach Solow finished off some pretty powerplay passing inside five minutes of the second to put the visitors ahead 4-0 heading into the 3rd period.
Dawe sealed his hat trick with exactly four minutes remaining in regulation before Lincoln Griffin would spoil Luke Cavallin’s shutout bid 31 seconds later as he got the Cyclones on the board and cut it to 5-1.
Todd Skirving scored in the dying moments on the powerplay to put an exclamation mark on a 6-1 road victory for Newfoundland.
