The Newfoundland Growlers kickstart a new calendar year by hosting the Trois-Rivières Lions for the first time this season in a three-game set beginning on Friday night at the Mary Brown’s Centre.
Newfoundland come into the series a solid 12-3-0-0 at home so far this season, their last action on the rock a three-game sweep over the Iowa Heartlanders on December 7, 9 & 10.
It was a hot and cold six game road trip for the Growlers to close out 2022 which ended on a high note with back-to-back wins over the Kalamazoo Wings, the most recent victory a 2-1 finish on New Year’s Eve.
Trois-Rivières have struggled to find consistency so far this season and as a result find themselves fifth in the North Division outside of the postseason picture. Their last action came on Wednesday night in a 3-2 home defeat to the Maine Mariners at the Colisée Videotron.
While the Lions need wins first and foremost to get themselves back into a playoff spot, a chance to steal points off a main rival in the Growlers should provide some further motivation.
After squaring off 21 times across the 2021-22 regular season and playoffs, Newfoundland have won the only two meetings between these two teams this season with a pair of victories in Trois-Rivières back in October.
Puck drops is set for 7:00 pm on Friday and Saturday night, while Sunday gets underway at 4:00 pm. Growlers fans can watch all three games live on FloSports (subscription required), listen to the call on Mixlr, or follow along on Twitter (@NLGrowlers) for game updates and highlights. Tickets for all three games can be purchased at nlgrowlers.com/tickets.
