The Newfoundland Growlers started their six game homestand on a sour note in a 6-1 loss to the Reading Royals on Friday night at Mary Brown’s Centre.

Brandon Kruse opened the scoring four minutes into the first period as he made no mistake on a great 2-on-1 feed from Pavel Gogolev to make it 1-0 Newfoundland.

Jacob Gaucher replied shorthanded for Reading with 1:10 left in the 1st to make it a 1-1 game after 20 minutes.

Sam Hu gave the Royals their first lead of the game midway through the second period with a deflection in the slot to put the visitors ahead 2-1 after two.

Charlie Gerard and Evan Barratt both struck within the opening six minutes of the third period to give the Royals a 4-1 advantage.

Shane Sellar and Alec Butcher got in on the scoring late as Reading secured a 6-1 win.
