The Newfoundland Growlers will have to wait at least one more night to clinch their playoff spot as they fell 6-2 on St. Patrick’s Day vs. the Adirondack Thunder on Friday night at Mary Brown’s Centre.
Xavier Parent opened the scoring for Adirondack three minutes into the first period with a short snipe to make it 1-0 Thunder early.
Brady Fleurent made it 2-0 Thunder 12 minutes later before Jack Badini got one back for the Growlers 83 seconds later as he finished off a scramble in the crease to bring it to 2-1 Adirondack after 20 minutes.
Wayne LeTourneau and Shane Harper both struck for the visitors within a minute midway through the second to quickly make it 4-1.
Pavel Gogolev got the Growlers back within two with a powerplay goal moments later before Sebastian Vidmar nabbed another for Adirondack to put them ahead 5-2 heading into the second intermission.
Ryan Smith added a sixth for the Thunder eight minutes into the third as they held on for a 6-2 victory.
