The Newfoundland Growlers evened their series with the Adirondack Thunder thanks to an 8-4 Game Two win on Friday night at Cool Insuring Arena.
Matt Hellickson opened the scoring for Newfoundland nine minutes into the first period as he took full advantage of a great Pavel Gogolev pass to snipe one home from the high slot to give the Growlers a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.
Keenan Suthers started a high flying second period by doubling the Growlers advantage on the powerplay less than four minutes into the middle frame.
After Matt Jennings replied for Adirondack five minutes later, Todd Skirving notched a pair of deflections within a three minute span to quickly make it 4-1 Newfoundland.
Zach O’Brien got in on the action with 4:13 left in the second before Matt Slick nabbed a second Thunder tally 31 seconds before the intermission to bring it to 5-2 Growlers after 40 minutes.
Suthers added a second before the third period was a minute old to make it 6-2 before Wayne LeTourneau and Shawn Weller replied for Adirondack with a Zach Solow powerplay strike sandwiched in between to Newfoundland take a 7-4 lead out of another offensive flurry.
Nolan Walker sealed it with an empty netter 3:32 before the final buzzer as Newfoundland held on for a frantic 8-4 victory.
