The Newfoundland Growlers made it three straight wins over the Trois-Rivières Lions with a statement 9-2 victory on Sunday afternoon at the Mary Brown’s Centre.
Pavel Gogolev opened the scoring six minutes into the first period with a powerplay snipe to put Newfoundland ahead.
Keenan Suthers doubled the Growlers lead eight minutes later before Gogolev notched his second of the opening period to give Newfoundland a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes.
Newfoundland poured on three more in the second period as Ryan Chyzowski notched a pair and Keenan Suthers tipped one home to make it 6-0 through two periods.
After Nicolas Guay and William Lemay got two back for Trois-Rivières early in the third, the Growlers put it out of sight as James Melindy and Isaac Johnson joined the party late in the game and Gogolev completed his hat-trick to make it an emphatic 9-2 final for Newfoundland.
- Pavel Gogolev set a new franchise record for goals in a season with his 32nd.
