SERIES PREVIEW | APRIL 7-9 VS. TROIS-RIVIÈRES

The Newfoundland Growlers play their final three home games of the regular season on Easter weekend as they host the Trois-Rivières Lions beginning on Friday night at Mary Brown’s Centre.

Newfoundland took two out of three contests away to both Norfolk and Florida on their recent six game road trip to remain 10 points clear atop the North Division. The Growlers are now just one point away from locking up both first in the division as well as home ice through at least the first two rounds of the postseason.

A clean sweep on the weekend would also secure top spot in the Eastern Conference for Newfoundland who to date are a sterling 24-8-1-0 on home ice this season.

Trois-Rivières have had a difficult sophomore year in the ECHL but have played strong of late, picking up at least a point in five of their last six games. With all five of their remaining games coming against division rivals in the playoff hunt, the Lions will be fully embracing the role of spoiler to close out the regular season.

An historically feisty affair when these two meet, Newfoundland have won six of their eight games vs. Trois-Rivières across the 2022-23 campaign. Expect a spirited effort from the Lions as they get three final chances to battle the Growlers.

Puck drops is set for 7:00 pm on Friday and Saturday night, while Sunday gets underway at 4:00 pm. Growlers fans can watch all three games live on FloSports (subscription required), listen to the call on Mixlr, or follow along on Twitter (@NLGrowlers) for game updates and highlights. Tickets for all three games can be purchased at nlgrowlers.com/tickets.

WHO TO WATCH:

NFL – Matt Hellickson (D): Spending the entire season with the Toronto Marlies, Hellickson returns to Newfoundland after impressing across the Growlers playoff run last spring.

TR – Anthony Beauregard(F): Tops on the team in goals scored (23) and second in points per game (0.9), Beauregard is one of the major offensive threats for Trois-Rivières.
