Game Story
The Newfoundland Growlers came up just short in a 2-1 overtime defeat to the Worcester Railers on Sunday afternoon at the Mary Brown’s Centre.
Trevor Cosgrove opened the scoring for Worcester with a slick individual effort to give eight minutes into the contest to give the Railers a 1-0 lead after the first period.
Zach O’Brien equalized on the powerplay for Newfoundland with 5:28 left in the middle frame to make it 1-1 heading into the third.
After neither side found a way through in the final 20 minutes of regulation, Ashton Calder scored the decisive goal just 13 seconds into overtime as his hot shot gave the Railers a thrilling 2-1 victory.
